Woodingdean artist David Miles

For Woodingdean resident and artist David Miles, May has already been an extremely busy month.
He has put together * 'The Hole in Mount Hakone'* exhibition at Brighton Museum.

Inspired by items of local and national importance. The exhibition name comes from an actual hole in the print Mount Hakone by the 19th century Japanese artist Hiroshige.
David took this 'hole', or crater as his starting point for the exhibition and an archive poster from the Argus mentions Woodingdean Well 'I have lived in Woodingdean for about 5 years and when I moved here I heard that we had the deepest hand dug well in the country right here (in front of the Nuffiled Hospital on Warren Road). When I was putting together the exhibition it came immediately to mind.

David's work is also on show this year as part of Phoenix Open Studios on Sat 19 and Sun 20 May at 10 - 14 Waterloo Place Brighton BN2 (the blue building on the Lewes Road by The Level. His studio is open from 11am to 5pm on both days and you will be able to see his latest sketchings and sculpture.
