Martlets Hospice Has Bags of Feel-Good Factor

Ever fancied owning a designer bag? Do you love the look but not the price tag? ** Handbags For Hospices **is a brilliant new fundraising event which gives you the chance to get your hands on a bag that may previously have graced the arm of a glamorous celebrity. So far Davina McCall, Paloma Faith and Zoe Ball have all donated bags for the launch event in Brighton in February 2013, in aid of the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Hove resident Zoe Ball was keen to get involved and has donated a bag. She spoke about her motivation to help: "I've got family and friends who have been cared for at The Martlets Hospice, it's a real pleasure that I can give something back to show my support - thank you for everything you do.”

Handbags For Hospices is the brainchild of mums Abigail Bowen from Brighton and Lucy Wilkes from Lewes. Abigail Bowen came up with the idea for Handbags for Hospices after her father Michael was cared for by the Martlets Hospice in Hove in 2007.

Speaking about the inspiration for Handbags For Hospices Abigail said: “I was moved to help the Martlets following the amazing work they did for my Dad and my family. Their services are free when you need them and yet they receive less than a third of their funding from government. I wanted to create a fun event to help raise money that appealed to myself and friends. We had a pilot in Feb 2012 which was successful beyond my wildest dreams and soon I realised that the concept had mass appeal.

Since then the idea has grown from strength to strength and we’d love to continue to support the Martlets with annual events and also offer other ladies an easy and fun way to raise money for their own local hospices.”

Abi and Lucy are asking women from across the country to dig out their unwanted handbags for a charity auction to raise much needed cash for their local hospices. Whether your bags are Mulberry, Prada or high street chic, they want them all. Handbags For Hospices is bang on trend for the surge in interest in pre-loved quality pieces.

The launch of Handbags for Hospices will take place at Pub due Vin Ballroom, Brighton on 28th February 2013. The event will showcase the best of the donated bags and give guests the opportunity to bid on them during a silent auction. Any remaining bags will be sent on to the next event or donated directly to the Martlets to sell in their shops.

Between now and then the hunt is on for all those unwanted bags that can be auctioned off and sent to new loving homes. So what are you waiting for? Dig out those bags languishing in the back of your wardrobe and help raise much needed cash!
