King of the Mods performs for The Martlets
King Jerry, DJ and former "King of the Mods"is hosting a Soul and Motown event at Hove Town Hall on Friday 22 November. The event will be in aid of The Martlets Hospice as a tribute to good friend and soul performer Kerry McLafferty.
In the 60's Jerry was known as the King of the Mods in Brighton. He was the inspiration for the character Ace Face, immortalised by Sting in the cult film, Quadrophenia. His signature full length patchwork leather coat and Blue Vespa made him a recognisable figure in Brighton. He was the DJ at the Florida Rooms where many of the biggest acts played including The Who, Rod Stewart and David Bowie. He also worked in Sounds Unlimited in North Street, which was the first record shop in Brighton to sell hard to find imports from America. Whilst there he was responsible for the British release of George McRae's Rock your Baby and Donna Summer's Loves Unkind Now, at the age of 71 King Jerry DJs for charity.
