Give Blood in Brighton this March

With Mother's Day coming up this Spring, NHS Blood and Transplant are asking for blood donations for blood transfusions in postnatal hospital treatment of both new mothers and babies.

As well as being needed in accident and emergency situations, blood is also needed by new mothers during or after pregnancy. Premature babies may also need a blood transfusions as premature cannot make their own new blood cells in the first few weeks after birth.

**If you are aged between 17 and 65 and weigh more than 50 kg (7st 12lbs) and you are in good health, you can be a blood donor and start saving lives. **

NHS Blood and Transplant's Lead Donor Relations Manager for the Surrey and Sussex area, John Canning, said:

*During this month we would like people to think about not only their own mother, but also the mothers and families they can help with their blood donation. As one donation can help three adults or seven babies, donors really can make a difference and help to save a life. We have made it through the winter months due to the dedication of our existing blood donors, but the need for blood does'nt stop and we still need donors to come forward throughout the year.
