Artist design brief - Woodingdean

As most Woodingdean residents will know, BUPA are investing over £7million in a new care home, Dean Wood, currently being built in Warren Road, Woodingdean (next to the Nuffield Hospital). The home is expected to create more than 100 jobs in the local area.

The Public Art Commission has published the following Artist Design Brief.
BUPA, in association with Brighton & Hove City Council, are offering a £20,000 art commission for design of an exterior creative fencing/boundary solution for the new care home in Woodingdean. The commission is for a creative vision and practical solution that will include a participatory element working with local community groups.. The detailed brief describes the new care home as providing specialist nursing care and a positive environment for people living with dementia.
The building is to be three storeys high with a flatroof and substantial roof garden. The care home development will be completed by May 2013 and residents will move in by 22 May 2013.

The aim of the commission is to make an attractive and practical boundary for the site with a particular focus on the front of the building at both the North and West of the site. Between the new building and The Cottages to the North of the site and the Nuffield Hospital to the West.

The brief was published on 14 September and the deadline for submissions is the 12th October 5pm. The participatory element of the project could involve working with some, or all of the neighbouring community resources. Downs View School, Woodingdean Primary School, Woodingdean Youth centre and the Cottage complex,
